The first chart to the left indicate total Lake Tahoe school enrollment over the last 2.5 decades. We note the decline since 1998. This decline is due to demographics in the Lake Tahoe area. This area is a prime target for retiring "baby boomers" who seek an active retirement (skiing, hiking, water sports, etc.) with benefits of available entertainment, restaurants, medical facilities, etc. that go with the major South Lake Tahoe greater area having a population base of 35,000 people. On the Nevada side, residents get the benefits of very small town living (only about 4000 residences), larger town amenities, low property taxes, and no state income tax on the retirement funds they have available. The second chart on the left breaks out recent school population down into the three school levels. While these small schools may not be able to offer special courses available at schools 10 times their size, they do offer a more family-like environment where your child will not remain anonymous. |
